Innocence of children

A few days ago I had a conversation with a girl around 4 years old. She was visiting the stables with her grandfather and she was very curious about the horse that I was grooming outside.

She asked me all sorts of questions that I answered in a quiet way with lots of patience. Then she asked me “are you also a grandmother?” I contemplated the question for a moment; this girl saw me as possibly a grandmother and of course that would be a good possibility at my age. I had never considered this and silently I had to swallow; time goes so fast.

I answered her “No I am not a grandmother” and she responded, “Don’t worry, you must be really wise anyway”.

Book

Title: The Squirrel’s Birthday and Other Parties

Author: Toon Tellegen

ISBN: 9781906250935

This book is very nice to read out to children. It consists of stories that can be read in a few minutes. My experience is that children start to think about it and then ask questions about it, often only the next day.
The stories also make me think and help in a fun way to see events in a different perspective.
