The healing working of nature
Stress: we all experience it, but what do we do about it, or what can we do about it? Maybe it is not the first thing that comes to mind, but nature has a big (healing) influence on it. Many studies focussed on the healing influence of nature have indicated that it really helps to reduce stress or stress-related symptoms.
Give yourself a boost through the healing capacities of nature
Exposing yourself to nature or a green environment helps decreasing your cortisol levels. Cortisol is also a stress level indicator. So, go outside! Make regular walks in the forest, go for walks with a dog, or go for a run. Nature is good for you and is energizing. Don’t forget that gardening also happens in nature!
Body & Spirit
Aside from decreasing your cortisol level and boosting your energy, nature has another healing force: silence. Enjoy in the natural setting the silence and the beauty, and relax completely. Such a natural setting and silence is the perfect environment for self-reflection. For example, make your walk a reflective walk. Allow your environment to inspire you, and to become one with yourself.
Recovery from daily work stress
The soothing feeling of green is imprinted on our DNA. By its sounds, views and smells nature gives us a feeling of safety. It lowers blood pressure, and is much more inspiring than heavy traffic and big bright billboards. Try seeking out nature more often than the sofa, social media or TV. It can be difficult, but give it a try. You will feel physically and spiritually energized again!
How do I reflect during a nature walk?
Reflection is different for every individual. Some people are better at it, some less so. Reflecting is often done in a given situation. So try to make some time for yourself and step outside into nature. You will notice that the natural environment has an inspiring influence.
